longman213My ancestors are from England, and my Great-Grandmother used to tell me about a Longman castle in the U.K. Is this just a fairytale she used to tell, or did members of the Longman family once reside in one castle or another? None of my other family members seem to have any idea. If anyone has any information, it would be most appreciated!
PeterBeen busy for the last week, and note there is no answer to your question. Which no doubt means all are having a good think about it.
Must say I've never heard of it.
But will add my looking to the rest.
Don't go away !
ipfloi have taken a look in mine books and a search on the net, and i have to say i couldn't find anything. so if it existed, it doesn't no longer exist now

I did a little digging and came up with a thread you may want to look into. I know you stated your family was from England, but this may be their origin? (Hope it helps - good luck)

Longman & Castle Stuart Bays in Northern Scotland. This area (Inverness) has been under an archeology dig.
Here is a contact that may shed some light on your questions:

Highland Council Archaeology Unit, Planning and Development, Council HQ,
Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX

I would first ask if there were any castles or fortifications in the Longman Bay area then if so, ask where you can find some information for a research project. Let them know you are looking into your heritage and need this information for that purpose. Also, if you go to college, see if you can couple your research with an assignment and let them know you are requesting this info for a class research assignment as well.
